Simon Costello is Director of Children Youth & Family Services at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. The Center’s programs and services for LGBT youth experiencing homelessness include a 7-day a week drop-in center, a 28-bed emergency shelter, and a 34-bed transitional living program. The LifeWorks program provides one-on-one mentoring and youth development programs for at-home and at-school LGBTQ youth. The RISE program provides services to LGBTQ youth in foster care with the goal of strengthening family connections and improving permanency outcomes for young persons in systems of care. A priority for Simon is the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that achieve meaningful outcomes for youth including innovative education, employment, and youth development programs.
Simon joined the Los Angeles LGBT Center in 2002 and held several positions in Children, Youth, and Family Services prior to being appointed director of the department in 2016. He is a board member and treasurer for the Hollywood Media District, Business Improvement District; a board member of the California Coalition for Youth (CCY); and a member of the advisory board of Safe Place for Youth, a program for homeless youth in Venice, California. Prior to joining the Center, Simon held a management position in the technology sector.
Simon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from Dublin City University.
