Street Outreach

Assertive outreach is a key feature of Safe Place for Youth's practice. Specifically focusing on the Westside of Los Angeles, our outreach teams visit places where homeless youth sleep and congregate (beach, parks, bus stops). In non-intrusive ways, they make themselves known, develop rapport and assist youth to identify their needs and potential risks, and actively support them to access emergency shelter, healthcare and Safe Place for Youth's onsite programs. We also carry snacks, hygiene pack, socks and HIV/STD safety kits to distribute during outreach. As a member of the Westside Coalition and Coordinated Entry System (CES), we also participate in regular, collaborative outreach with partner agencies including Los Angeles LGBT Center.

In 2015, our Outreach team made 1,855 connections to homeless youth
