Director of Grants and Contracts
A native to the Westside of Los Angeles, Dr. Becky Avila joined SPY in 2018 after spending two years as the Director of After School Programs for the Mar Vista Family Center. With a Ph.D. in American Studies, focusing on contemporary forms of cultural discrimination and displacement for the Latinx community, Dr. Avila works to ensure that organizational narratives, impact, and fundraising efforts are rooted in race equity and social justice. She is part of Social Justice Partners (SJP Los Angeles) inaugural Racial Equity in Homelessness Fellowship and was the first-ever Chair of SPY's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee.
