Che is a servant leader with nearly 20 years of experience in homelessness and housing operations and policy, including serving as both a nonprofit CEO and Deputy Mayor of Homelessness for the City of Los Angeles during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, he founded Community Homelessness Expertise (CHE), where he partners with nonprofits to strengthen organizational capacity, coaches emerging leaders with lived experience, and advises local governments on strategic, results-driven approaches to homelessness. He has served as a Senior Advisor to Karen Bass, currently advises Los Angeles City Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky, serves as an Associate Monitor on a court-appointed independent monitoring team in Portland, and also leads a United Way–funded initiative. He has served on the board of Safe Place for Youth since 2024, where he currently serves as Vice President. His work is grounded in his lived experience with homelessness and a deep belief that lasting solutions begin with building community. He was recently profiled in Alta / A Human Atlas of the City of Angels by Marcus Lyon, a social impact project highlighting 100 changemakers in Los Angeles, where he was recognized alongside leaders such as Dolores Huerta, Fr. Greg Boyle, and the late James Lawson Jr. |
