September 2025 SPY Report

Dear Friend,

As we say farewell to an amazing summer, we want to say a very special thank you to all who made our Meals That Matter campaign such a resounding success! With your help we will provide nourishing meals to our youth at our Drop-In Center, housing sites, and for the road. We’re also celebrating:

  • Milestones of our housed youth

  • Self-care at SPY

  • SPY’s first ever Fall Fest at The Penmar

  • Ways to advocate for youth in your community

This initiative kickstarted our commitment to provide 19,000 additional meals as we expand our operating hours. Because of your success, we’re on track to meet that goal and more. From all of us at SPY and especially from the youth who rely on these meals: thank you for making this possible.

There’s still time to join us in making sure no young person goes hungry this fall. Every donation helps ensure our youth have access to warm meals, care, and opportunities to succeed.

Every dollar raised is already at work!

A pathway home: August

6 SPY members celebrated the transition to permanent housing this month, including Blu!

Blu is a former foster youth first housed with SPY at A Bridge Home, our emergency shelter, before transitioning to our Roots to Grow housing program. Through her dedication, resilience, and consistency, she secured her own apartment in under a year.

Blu has been an active member at SPY, participating in our Education and Employment program, as well as being a youth advocate with our SPY Squad Advisory Board. We couldn’t be more proud, congrats, Blu!

🍂🍁 Join Us at Fallfest 🍂🍁

Break into the autumnal season with SPY! On Saturday, October 11 from 6-9pm, join Safe Place for Youth in collaboration with The Penmar in Venice CA, for a spooky night of:

  • Cocktails & bites

  • Tarot Readings

  • Magicians

  • Magic vendor mart

  • Fabulous prizes

Come for the cozy vibes and stay for a good cause. Every ticket sold helps SPY open doors and create bright futures for the unhoused young people in our community.

Self-care with connectla

Case Managers Claire and Caroline, began offering walks to SPY’s Community Garden if our youth were having tough days. These self-care walks quickly became a hit, and have turned into the Weekly Wednesday Walk at SPY!

This initiative is in collaboration with the ConnectLA program, which aims to provide social support to our young people and create deeper connections with the local community.

Use Your Voice In Beverly Hills on September 30th

Are you free on September 30th? Do you live near Beverly Hills? Do you love the work that SPY does? If you answered yes to any of those questions, this is for you!

We need your support asking LACASHA (Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency) to dedicate funds to youth specific programming to prevent them from falling into homelessness. As of today, there are no dedicated youth-specific dollars set aside with LACAHSA, one of the newest and largest providers of homelessness prevention funding.

We would love for you to join us at City Council meetings and provide public comment that emphasizes the importance of youth programming. Members of City Councils from across LA make up the The LACAHSA Board, and we can connect with them best in their cities! Your voice has the power to enact the most change.

SPY is also hosting a monthly virtual Happy Half-Hour on the 24th - RSVP HERE

Can’t make the Happy Half-Hour? Feel free to email any questions to dextero@safeplaceforyouth.org.
